UML PP meet to decide govt fate

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, APR 09 -
The much-awaited Parlia-mentary Party meeting of the ruling CPN-UML, which is supposed to decide the fate of the incumbent government, is to take place on Saturday morning.

Majority UML Consti-tuent Assembly (CA) members close to the party establishment have prepared a proposal demanding Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’s resignation to “make way” for a national consensus government.

The proposal backed by a majority vote was scheduled to be tabled at Sunday’s meeting, but was stalled due to  prime minister’s direct intervention.

On the other hand, the government supporting CA members are prepared to foil the proposal meant to topple the government. “Symptoms are not so good. Definitely, tensions will run high at the meeting,” said Prithvi Subba Gurung, UML CA member. “We will stand firmly against their demand to replace the prime minister."

Seventy CA members close to the party establishment have already signed on the proposal demanding prime minister’s resignation. “We have no alternatives but to push the proposal for timely statue and peace. We will not backtrack from our mission," said CA member Yuba Raj Karki.

Party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal had called the meeting on Sunday, but the prime minister intervened knowing that a majority of CA members wanted the government replaced.
