UML intra-party debate rages on
KATHMANDU, APR 08 -
Intra-party debate in CPN-UML whether to continue the party-led government or not has reached among its sister organisations now, creating division among cadre.
Following in footsteps of their mentors, leaders of sister organisations affiliated to UML have expressed conflicting views. While some want continuation of the present government, others favour a national unity government.
Some leaders of UML-affiliated Youth Association Nepal (YAN) and All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), close to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Oli, want action against the leaders who started signature campaign against the prime minister of their own party.
After an informal meeting on Thursday, the youths leaders in Nepal and Oli camp stood firm in the face of mounting pressure and were one on giving continuity to the government. They have demanded punishment against those backing the signature campaign, including Vice-Chairman Bam Dev Gautam.
“We have agreed to demand action against Gautam and his supporters, who became signature campaigners,” said Mahesh Bista, a YAN leader. “But before this, we will meet the campaigners and ask them to correct their wrong move.” Some YAN and ANNFUSU leaders have also been considering to meet the prime minister and lobby for taking disciplinary action.
The leaders of YAN and ANNFSU, close to party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal and Gautam, were not present in the meeting. TKP learnt that they want the government to step down and pave the way for formation of new consensus government for timely promulgation of the new consitution and for the sake of peace process.
“I had no information about the meeting,” said Niraj Acharya, YAN General Secretary.
