UML set to decide on govt fate
KATHMANDU, APR 06 -
In a bid to repair the widening intra-party rift that appeared after some leaders started a signature campaign against the government led by their own party, CPN-UML has called Parliamentary Party (PP) meeting on Saturday.
UML leaders are expected to make a concrete decision about the fate of the present government during the meeting, which was scheduled for Sunday and was subsequently postponed following the directive of Prime Minister and senior UML leader, Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The PP meeting is taking place at a time when some other parties are awaiting its outcomes that is likely to impact national politics and some UML Constituent Assembly members have initiated signature campaign against the government.
They want Nepal to step down and pave the way for a national unity government. He, however, has warned action against the leaders behind the signature campaign. Party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal is among those clamouring for a new government,
saying that UML is open to discuss all options.
Bam Dev Gautam is not behind. He has been publicly urging Nepal to resign for the sake of national consensus.
Speaking to Post, UML chief whip Bhim Acharya said the PP meeting is crucial as time is running out for promulgation of the new constitution. We will discuss all contemporary political issues broadly, he said.
UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari said a national consensus government is the need of hour for timely constitution and peace process.
"Even the central committee meeting has decided to keep all options open. If we fail to pave the way for a new government, another majority government is likely to be in place."
"The party should heed our advice or convince us that the new government can not handle the issues faced by the country," Adhikai added.
