Go-ahead for Army intake

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, APR 01 -
The Defence Ministry has given a go-ahead for the recruitment of technical manpower in the Nepal Army (NA). The ministry is also mulling to recruit soldiers for its infantry division. The government had stopped recruitment in the Army following Supreme Court’s March 2009 stay order, which came in response to INHURED International’s petition against the Army’s bid to recruit 3,010 soldiers last year.

“I gave a go-ahead for the recruitment of technical manpower in the Army before leaving for Beijing on an official visit,” Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari told reporters on Thursday. She said the government will approve the intake in the infantry soon. The technical manpower comprises staff in the medical, engineering, mechanical and aeronautic departments, among others. Three months ago, the Army had written to the ministry, seeking permission to recruit 301 technical personnel.

The NA maintains it needs to recruit 8,000-10,000 personnel to fill the posts that have been lying vacant due to suspension of its recruitment drive.
