Resume services, CDO orders TUTH
KATHMANDU, MAR 30 -
Kathmandu Chief District Office (CDO) on Tuesday directed the director of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) to immediately resume hospital services.
The CDO’s directive follows close on the heels of the Supreme Court’s show cause order to the government, Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IoM) and others, including the CDO over the closure of TUTH.
Stating that the closure of hospital services goes against the Essential Service Operation Act 2014 B.S., the CDO directed Dr. Keshav Prasad Joshi, director of TUTH, to resume health services as soon as possible.
In its letter, the CDO has asked TUTH authorities to inform the administration, if any kind of support is required by the hospital for its operation.
Talking to the Post, CDO Laxmi Prasad Dhakal said, “The CDO was forced to write the letter, after the hospital administration and agitating groups failed to heed the oft-made appeal regarding the hospital’s operation.”
Meanwhile, issuing a statement, Tribhuvan University (TU) urged the agitating groups to withdraw their protests and continue providing hospital services.
“The university has already agreed to take action against those involved in irregularities as per the recommendation of the investigation committee set up by the university following the demands of agitators and cancelled the entrance examination for post graduate studies in medicine on 13 and 14 March taken by the IoM,” reads the statement.
Subsequently, the director of TUTH said he would call all the agitating groups for discussion on the letters of the CDO and TU.
Hospital services have been affected for the last 16 days. Patients have not been admitted due to the strike over alleged graft in the postgraduate studies in medicine entrance exams. Even the emergency ward has only partially opened.
