Minister warns ex-king of action

POST REPORT

DANG, MAR 29 -
Minister for Information and Communications and government Spokesman Shankar Pokharel has warned former King Gyanendra Shah to stop political adventurism or face action.

“The law of the land allows every citizen to be involved in politics,” said Pokharel at a press meet here on Monday, objecting to Shah's engagement in political as former king. Referring to the March 24 interview in which the former king dubbed the deposition of monarchy 'hypothetical', Pokharel said that the dethroned monarch gave a political statement taking advantage of a fluid political situation that has arisen after the demise of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

“Through his remarks, Shah has humiliated the sacrifices that people made for political transformation. Neither people nor the government can tolerate such remarks,” he said, adding that remarks on revival of the monarchy were against the constitution.

Minister Pokharel ruled out the possibility of a Hindu state and monarchy's revival.

In another context, he said that the constitution could be promulgated on time despite regressive forces' conspiracies to revive the 1990 Constitution.
