Maoist-aligned union halts traffic
KATHMANDU, MAR 29 -
UCPN (Maoist)-affiliated All Nepal Trade Federation of Trade Union (ANFTU) on Monday halted vehicular movement across the country for three hours demanding that the government take action against the killers of Ram Ayodhi Yadav and declare him a martyr.
Yadav, a member of the UCPN (Maoist) Mithila State Committee and Coordinator of the Trade Union Mithila State Committee, was shot dead by an unidentified group on March. 27.
The Maoist trade union also called industrial shutdown across the country to protest the killing. All the factories operating inside the major industrial estates remained shut while industries outside the industrial estates were partially affected.
Agitating workers halted transportation movement for three hours in major points of the Capital.
ANFTU President Shalikram Jammarkattel said about 20 union members were arrested by police during the agitation in Kathmandu.
According to him, 13 members, including Keshab Adhikari, central member of Hotel’s Union, were arrested from Ratnapark and seven from Chabahil. Similarly, 12 union activists were held by police in Morang.
