Hospital in memory of Koirala
KATHMANDU, MAR 29 -
In what is likely to be the first state honour for late Girija Prasad Koirala, the government will soon decide to establish a hospital in his name.
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has registered a proposal at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Council of Ministers, intending to set up a hospital in memory of late Koirala.
Kabi Raj Khanal, joint spokesperson at MoHP, confirmed they had submitted such proposal at the PMO some days ago. We will prepare the detail work plan and design once the Cabinet approves the proposal, he said. The ministry also has come up with its name -- “Girija Prasad Koirala National Labour Hospital”. Late Koirala had launched a labour movement in Biratnagar Jute Mill in his hometown.
Khanal said that if the plan sees the light of day, the hospital will be established in the Capital and later outside Kathmandu Valley. According to a Cabinet source, the MoHP proposal will be presented at the next meeting. The hospital aims to provide services to labourers working in different factories. Since many labourers sustain injuries, the hospital will cater to their needs, Khanal said.
