Mega IT show begins today
KATHMANDU, JAN 23 - Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is organising information technology (IT) show from tomorrow, which will showcase the latest technologies and products in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).
As usual, the event will be an attraction especially for students and youths since a considerable number of IT colleges and training institutes have already decorated their stalls with discount banners.
Biplav Man Singh, Vice President of CAN, says that the IT show would be an opportunity for the businessmen to boost their sales as they have been bearing the brunt of slowdown in their businesses.
IT colleges and institutes have been vying each other in providing bigger discounts on the enrollment of their various courses as the number of students opting for such courses have declined because the fresh IT graduates have remained unemployed. The production of manpower outpaced the employment opportunities.
Being held at Birendra International Convention Centre from 23 to 28 January, the event will be open for visitors from 10 AM to 5 PM. January 28 has been set aside as Business Day.
A three-day conference on ‘Creating Information Society: Challenges and Perspectives’ is also being held in conjunction with the show. There are 114 stalls that would sell computer peripherals at a very competitive price, according to CN Upadhyaya, Coordinator of the IT fair.
One of the major attractions of this year’s mela is wireless Internet technology being introduced by the World Link Communications, one of the leading Internet service providers.
Similarly, Mercantile Communications is organising a free Epson printer service camp during the event by a team of engineers trained in Epson Singapore.
Likewise, Apex College is going to display and sell software developed by the college, which is meant for the management information system of colleges and universities. Bhanu Sharma, Principal of the college said that one can acquire various information related to students within 30 seconds.
Cellular mobile and satellite mobile sets, UPSs, doorframe metal detectors and other products are the other attractions of the event.
Last year, the event had drawn 140,000 visitors and the organisers expect about 200,000 visitors this year.Posted on: 2004-01-24 02:37
