Nepal seal consolation

KATHMANDU, JAN 23 - Captain Paras Khadka scored the second half-century of the tournament and Raj Shrestha displayed an all-round performance as Nepal beat Bahrain by 89 runs in the last of the super league match of the U-17 Asia Cup at Bangalore today.
The consolation win came after two defeats against India and Pakistan who both advanced to the semifinal from Nepal’s group. In a match reduced to 35 overs due to delayed start, Nepal scored 216/6 with Paras’ 51 and Raj Shrestha’s 46 before bowling out the opponents for 127 in 34.4 overs.Spinners Raj Shrestha and Irfan Siddique each returned with 3 wickets while pacer Bantu Bataju claimed two early wickets to push Bahrain on back-foot. Bahrain stayed at the crease till the last over but never seemed pursuing the target.
India, a day earlier, scored massive 419/3 in 45 overs against Bahrain and defeated them by 292 runs while Pakistan chased their target of 77 in 10.5 overs without losing any wicket.Posted on: 2004-01-24 03:23
