King’s words not reliable: Koirala
KATHMANDU, JAN 21 - Speaker Tara Nath Ranabhat today met Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and briefed him about his recent meeting with King Gyanendra. After meeting Ranabhat, Koirala told party cadres at his Maharajganj residence that the king’s words were not reliable.
An NC source said that Ranabhat was seeking reconciliation between the king and Koirala to resolve the current political crisis. "Ranabhat is trying to work as a bridge," the source said.
Ranabhat is said to have told Koirala that the king was quite positive towards settling the present political stalemate. "All parliamentary forces should sit and collectively find an amicable solution to the crisis," Ranabhat is reported to have told Koirala.
Koirala, however, was critical of the king’s ‘assurances’ to Ranabhat and told the party cadres that king always wanted to prolong the existing confrontation between parties in the name of consultation.
Similarly, Ranabhat today held a meeting with Narayanman Bijukchhe, president of the Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) and urged him to co-operate in settlings the current crisis.
Bijukchhe told The Kathmandu Post that Ranabhat wanted a broad discussion among all political parties representing the dissolved House of Representatives. "Ranabhat proposed that all political parties should build consensus to resolve the current crisis," Bijukchhe said.Posted on: 2004-01-22 04:03
