Colonel Gurung’s ancestral house destroyed
KAWASOTI, NAWALPARASI, JAN 20 - A group of Maoist rebels destroyed spokesperson of the Royal Nepal Army Colonel Deepak Gurung’s ancestral house with a powerful pressure-cooker bomb here last night.
However, nobody was hurt in the incident as all the family members were forced out of the house before the bomb was set off..
Retired Major Prem Bahadur Gurung, father of Colonel Gurung, told The Kathmandu Post that property worth Rs 400,000 was destroyed and the house was damaged beyond repairs.
"We were watching TV when the rebels asked us to come out of the house posing as army personnel," said the 85-year-old retired Major, "At first, I scolded them. But they took all of us out of the house one-by-one and set off the bomb."
He said he also lost Rs 45,000 in cash, eight tolas of gold, a number of medals he had won during his lifetime, when he checked his shelf after the rebels fled the scene.
