Rananbhat, Pandey granted audience

PR

KATHMANDU, JAN 20 - King Gyanendra granted separate audiences to Speaker of House of Representatives Tara Nath Ranabhat and former minister and Upper House member Ramesh Nath Pandey this evening.
Ranabhat told The Kathmandu Post after the audience that he found the king very much serious about the current situation and discord with the political parties. " His Majesty expressed serious concern for lack of consensus among the political forces to resolve the crisis," Ranabhat said.
Ranabhat said that he gave his suggestions to the king but declined to divulge further. He expressed confidence that an amicable solution was imminent.
According to a source close to Pandey, the King was in favour of appointing next prime minister from mainstream political party leaders. "The king seems to have realized that appointment of an individual or a minor party leader could not lead to a solution."
"The seven-point agenda was put forward before the parties by the King to pave way for formation of a government of national consensus."Posted on: 2004-01-21 03:25
