RPP may summon national council meet

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JAN 18 - The faction-ridden Rastriya Prajatantra Party is likely to summon its National Council meeting as demanded by the pro-government faction, a high-level party source said. A decision to this effect is expected to be taken during Monday’s Central Committee meeting.
"Most of the central committee members are for summoning the national council meeting," said the party’s Assistant General Secretary Khem Raj Pandit. "The date and other procedural aspects will be determined by the central committee."
"The meeting will revolve around, among others, the issue of National Council meeting, Central Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation on action against prime minister and the current political development," Pandit told The Kathmandu Post. The government-faction of the party, led by ministers Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani and Kamal Thapa last Friday had urged the party Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana to call the party’s supreme body’s meeting within January 24, in order to challenge the party’s action against prime minister. Altogether 413 members in the 700-member national council have requested the party chairman to revoke the disciplinary action initiated by the party against prime minister claiming that such an action would be prejudicial and have a long-term effect on the party.Posted on: 2004-01-19 04:22
