Porter presides magazine launch

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JAN 18 - Here’s something which happens very rarely in the rarefied world involving politicians and government ministers, including those who have very little time to spare on less attractive engagements.
In fact, Ram Bahadur Karki, a street porter by profession, went on to enjoy the luxury of presiding over the launching session of the second edition of Kantipur, a photographic magazine (not associated with Kantipur Publications Pvt. Ltd) on Saturday. This happened soon after the organisers ran out of patience waiting for the person they were expecting.
The organisers claimed they were expecting Finance Minister Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani as the chief guest but to no avail. In fact, the press release issued said the organisers waited for the minister after calling him up repeatedly to confirm his presence.Posted on: 2004-01-19 04:16
