POKHARA, JAN 18 - The International Mountaineering Museum (IMM) is set to be officially inaugurated by His Majesty the King on February 5 in Pokhara.
Spread over a land covering an area of 55000 sq ft at Rato Pahiro of the scenic valley, the IMM was partially opened in May 2003 to mark the Everest golden jubilee celebration.
The museum is unique in the sense that it provides information on the life of mountaineers who climbed peaks higher than 8,000 metres. The museum will be displaying tools and outfits used by mountaineers along with their photographs.
IMM will dedicate a special area to display the different aspects of life of ethnic communities such as Chhantyal, Tamang, Gurung, Thakali and Sherpa, living in the Himalayan belt.
Bal Prasad Rai, the museum curator, said, "80 million rupees were invested to build the museum and 20 million rupees will be added to complete the project."
The IMM entrance fee will have different rates. For Nepali citizens will be Rs 50, while SAARC’s nationals will pay Rs 200. Other foreign nationals’ fee will be Rs 300 while students will pay only Rs 10.
