KATHMANDU, JAN 17 - Chairperson of the then Rajsabha Standing Committee, Brigadier General Bhupalman Singh Karki, passed away at his residence in Baneswor last night. He was 95.
Karki who began service from the post of Mukhiya in 1988 BS became a lieutenant the same year, the captain of Kathmandu Police Goswara in 2005 BS, Hakim captain of Anarmani, Jhapa in 2006 BS, commissioner of the Valley Zone in 2011 BS, minister in 2014 and 2015 BS and chairman of the Rajsabha Standing Committee in 2034 BS.
In the 2007 BS people’s revolution, Karki led the revolutionaries into the tent of Rana army and made the army surrender and this had played an important role in making the revolution a success.Honoured with various awards including the prestigious Om Rampatta, Trishaktipatta First Class and Gorkha Dakshin Bahu First Class, Karki has a significant contribution to the education, social and religious sector.
In 2054 BS, Karki founded the Bhupalman Singh Karki Academic Trust with a revolving fund of Rs 10 million. Since then, every year the trust has been honouring individuals making significant contribution in the fields of literature, art, culture, social service, education, religion, heath and sports.
