Kailali girls crowned champions
KATHMANDU, JAN 17 - The Kailali girls took home Rs.25,000, the ANFA Mayos National-school-level Football title and loads of experience as they came from behind to defeat Morang 2-1 in today’s final played at ANFA Complex, Satdobato.Morang, who started their first move in the very first minute, took the lead in the 18th minute but Kailali hit back in the match with a goal each from Maheswori and Bhawana.
All three goals more resulted from mistakes by the goalkeeper rather than good shots from the strikers. The first goal came in the 18th minute when Morang’s Jamuna Gurung connected a sublime chip above the Kailali defenders and goalie. The ball went dipping into the nets just below the top pole with the Kailali keeper standing still just gazing the ball. Instead, she ducked for cover with her hands at the sides her head for protection. Both of Kailali’s goals were contrived by Shalu Lama and the Morang keeper. Shalu took a free kick in the 33rd minute from just outside the penalty area forcing diving Morang goalie to misjudge the ball. The Morang goalkeeper instead of collecting it, punched it back only to find brilliant Maheshwori who cashed the opportunity to bring Kailali back in the match netting the equaliser. One more blunder from Morang goalie into the first minute of the second half saw them handing the crown to Kailali. In the second instance, the keeper again deflected a free-kick from Shalu instead of gathering and Bhawana KC finished the task scoring the decisive. Morang had to make do with the runners-up title and prize money of Rs 15,000 and yes the experience.
The tournament was jointly organised by the HMG Ministry of Education and Sports, National Sports Council, Japan Football Association and ANFA.Posted on: 2004-01-18 02:35
