Rajbiraj Industrial Area fails to attract more industrialists

POST REPORT
RAJBIRAJ, JAN 16 - Once catalyst to develop the national economy, Rajbiraj Industrial Area, established with the financial assistance of India some 16 years ago, has been unable to attract entrepreneurs from home and abroad.
The industrial area is located at 3 kilometres north to Rajbiraj and it covers an area of 22 bigha and 10 katthas and consists of 10 large buildings that can be used to run large industries.
However only four industries namely – Deepak Polymers, Deepak Plastics, Shangrila Cottage and Bishal Nikita Metal Industries have come into operation so far.
Subarna Joshi, of the industrial area said that the entrepreneurs paid no interest to establish industries as the management of the industrial area could not create suitable environment for the industrialists.
"The government must declare it a tax-free industrial area," said he adding, "then only there is chance of industrial boom."
Joshi informed that an Indian researchers’ team had visited the area the to study the possibility of constructing a railway service that link the adjoining parts of the industrial area. "It could not materialise since the government showed no response," he blamed.
Informing about the worse condition of the area, he told The Kathmandu Post that Kunauli, a mini customs post must be also turned into a major customs points so that the industrialists do not choose other points to export their goods or import the necessary raw materials.
Manoj Mundhada, President of Sapttari Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the government should take initiatives to set up the Kunauli-Nirmali railway, a project planned by the government of India and infrastructure along the Rajbiraj-Kanchanpur road must be set up.
"We have tried to attract the investors through business fairs and verbal proposals, but in vain," said Mundhada informing about the local efforts to draw the interest of the industrialists.Posted on: 2004-01-17 03:42
