Ghising’s roadmap: Decentralise power, turn god-fearing
KATHMANDU, JAN 16 - Leader of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) and the chairman of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) Subash Ghising today said decentralisation of power in Nepal would help restore peace and stability in the kingdom. Speaking here at a felicitation programme organised by the Media Reporters’ Club of Nepal, Ghising said,
"I don’t see multiparty democracy functioning in Nepal. There is simply a single party rule with Kathmandu as the centre of power." At times he also spoke suggesting that the king should declare emergency under the article 115 and exercise the control to contain the current situation. Asked if he would suggest the king to usurp the power and become active, he said, "King should proclaim emergency in such a situation. I also have the power in Darjeeling to declare emergency in crises situation."
When confronted by reporters to clarify his objectionable statements against the political parties in Nepal, he only said, "I mean decentralise power. Don’t make Kathmandu a dustbin, a place for everyone to throw stones." "Nepal has a highly centralised power structure, which needs to be decentralised," he said repeatedly.
Earlier, he said that the king should not be scolded. "It is the party leaders, which needs scolding." Earlier, speaking at the programme, he repeatedly spoke about deities and gods. He said that Nepal’s present situation was due to the slaughter of animals for appeasing the deity.
"In a country which is supposed to be very holy and peaceful, there is bloodshed. This is because people here are slaughtering hens and goats," he said. "No deity will be happy with this. Only the black power will be amused."Posted on: 2004-01-17 04:01
