Residents celebrate electrification of village
MANTHALI, JAN 14 - After the village was lit up with electrical lights yesterday night, residents of Ramche in Pakarbash VDC rejoiced the whole night. The electrification of the village for the first time had brought about this unbridled happiness to all, old and young alike.
As soon as an employee of the Electricity Office at Manthali brought the newly installed transformer in this village into operation, which lighted the houses there, the frenzied crowd got into merriment. Even the secretary of the Village Development Committee (VDC), Indra Karki, was so overjoyed that he danced to the beating of drums along with other locals that night. To celebrate the occasion, the villagers got together and organised a feast, where goat meat was distributed to all present to enjoy this moment.
After four years of constant effort, the residents of this village could finally see electrical lighting in their houses.
It is learnt that though electrical poles had been installed in Pakarbash four years ago, it was only recently that the locals of this village could realise their dreams with the active effort of the VDC there. It was only through the financial assistance of the VDC, to the tune of Rs. 95,000 that this electrification could be achieved.
According to employees of VDC, besides Ramche in Pakarbash VDC, they have succeeded in bringing electricity to some other parts like Bhimsenthan and Simley.
Krishneshwor Jha, the engineer at the Manthali branch of Nepal Electricity Authority, informed that in the near future they would be extending this service to the entire region of Pakarbash.
It is learnt that 160 households have benefited from the electrification of the Pakarbash VDC situated about three miles away from the district headquarters.
Similarly, it is learnt that electricity distribution has resumed even in Mugitar region, which had been under darkness for the past two months after Maoists had destroyed the transformer there two months ago. This village could glimpse light once again after the installation of a new transformer by the electricity office, informed engineer Jha.Posted on: 2004-01-15 03:53
