HIV/AIDS test starts in Achham

POST REPORT

ACHHAM, JAN 14 - Testing for HIV/AIDS got underway in remote Achham district. In the testing of the four blood samples at the laboratory of the Achham District Hospital, which will be providing this facility through the kits, last Sunday, one was found to be HIV positive, according to Dr. Arjun Sapkota the chief of this hospital.
Talking to The Kathmandu Post correspondent, Dr. Sapkota said that the intensity of HIV/AIDS in this district is assumed on the basis of surveys of other districts. And since, they want to know the actual number of people afflicted by AIDs in their district, and for those who wish to avail of this facility in their district, they have started the HIV/AIDS testing in this district itself.
Sapkota added that a well-equipped laboratory for testing of HIV/AIDS is being established within some days inside the premises of this district hospital, with assistance from various international organisations working there.
It is learnt that even those of this district who were proved HIV positive from their former tests will have opportunity to test again for confirmation.Posted on: 2004-01-15 03:57
