5 killed in tiger, elephant attacks
NARAYANGARH, JAN 13 - Four people were killed in two separate attacks by a tiger and an elephant in Chitwan and Rautahat districts.
In Chitwan, a tiger from the Royal Chitwan National Park (RCNP) killed three people including a woman at a community forest in Dibyanagar VDC on Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Kausila Pariyar, 52 of ward number 5 and Ram Mani Bidari, 23 and Nanda Lal Poudel, 49 of ward number 6 of the VDC. The tiger attacked them when they were collecting fodder in the Narayani Community Forest. Villagers later found the bodies scattered in the jungle within an area of 20 metres.
In Rautahat a wild elephant killed a local of ward number 9 of Judikhola VDC today. The deceased Sher Bahadur Bamjan, 50, had gone to a nearby jungle with his friend to collect firewood when an elephant suddenly attacked. His friend, however, managed to escape. Bamjan died on the spot according to his friend. In yet another incident in Mahottari, a herd of wild elephants ravaged four thatched houses in Bardibas VDC and destroyed foodgrain worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, according to Chiranjivi Hamal, the ex-VDC Chairman.
