Tourism associations flay categorisation
KATHMANDU, JAN 12 - A joint meeting of travel, trekking and hotel associations, criticising the government’s decision to classify travel and trekking agencies into A, B and C categories, has asked the government to withdraw its decision.According to a joint press release issued by Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), Nepal Association of Travel Agents (NATA), Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA), the classification of the travel agencies and trekking agencies will hit the tourism industry hard.
The press release states that the government decision to increase bank guarantee is not justifying.
The joint meeting has also asked the government to re-introduce trekking permit system. "The trekking permits will on one hand help in controlling illegal treks and on the other helps in strengthening the trekking industry," the release adds.Posted on: 2004-01-13 03:34
