Locals consuming unhygienic meat

POST REPORT

NEPALGUNJ, JAN 12 - Local people in Nepalgunj, an industrial hub of mid-western region, are consuming unhygienic meat in absence of slaughterhouse and well-managed meat stall.
Unsystematic sale of meat has put our lives at risk, say locals and adding that they have been raising voices to build slaughterhouse but it went in vain.
"We have repeatedly requested the municipality to establish slaughterhouses so that we get hygienic meat, but municipality has been turning a deaf ear towards our frequent requests," says Ram Krishna Bhattarai, a local.
There are a total of 12 places in the city, where the animals and chickens are slaughtered.
But, these places do not have even the basic facilities to safe keep the meat.
Aiming to provide the fresh meat, the municipality had established a slaughterhouse two years ago, but it could not run and properly.
Ramesh Aryal, Chief of Nepalgunj Municipality, meanwhile, says that the slaughterhouse is essential in the municipality to provide consumers with hygienic meat further adding that that the municipality will build a new slaughterhouse soon.Posted on: 2004-01-13 03:33
