King has gone too far: Oli
KATHMANDU, JAN 12 - K P Oli, a powerful leader in the CPN-UML, strongly charged that the king had no right to prepare a seven-point agenda and want the political parties agree on them.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the party’s third general convention of Kathmandu district here today, Oli said, "King is not supposed to make the political parties write an essay in front of him".He also claimed that the political parties only had the right to prepare the agenda and discuss on them. "The time to rule country through order has
already gone. No one should think of going beyond the constitution," Oli said while slamming the king’s current round of meetings with political parties. He stressed that there was no alternative to movement to restore the constitutional process. "This king does not understand the polite language. So we have to strongly protest in the streets to make him listen to us," Oli said.
Speaking on the occasion, party general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the UML had never agreed to restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives in the past. "So there is no any point to say that UML dropped the agenda," Nepal said.
Nepal also claimed that his party was still committed to the five party alliance. "We will never deceive our colleagues and the people," Nepal said, adding, "UML will never go to the government until and unless there is consensus among all the parties."
He urged the king to seek reconciliation with the political parties as soon as possible to settle the current impasse.Posted on: 2004-01-13 03:55
