KATHMANDU, JAN 12 - Lions club of Kathmandu Metro today organised a peace programme by lighting 108 peace lamps at Swoyambhunath Stupa, Swoyambhu, to mark the 282nd National Unity Day.
Participants of the programme circumambulated the Swoyambhunath Stupa with the peace lamps and observed one-minute silence for peace.
Kiran Babu Shrestha, President of Lions Club of Kathmandu Metro, said, "Every Nepali should try his level best to maintain peace in the country." He said that Nepal, which is believed to be the garden of various ethnic communities, has to regain its status as a peaceful nation.
Rubaya Nath Koirala, District Governor of Lions Club of Kathmandu and chief guest of the programme, said, "It is time to unite and think about the national interest rather than the individual interests." He also said that the motto of Lions Club this year was ‘Peace and Unity for innovative service’.Participants at the programme prayed for long lasting peace in the country and around the world.Posted on: 2004-01-13 03:42
