Peace mantra and Maoists
JAN 10 - Kudos to The Kathmandu Post for publishing two extremely well written articles by Dr Ram S Mahat on 6 and 7 January. These pieces are packed with valuable information with incisive analysis by the author on the Maoist goals and working tactics, ideological motivation and international connections.
I agree with him that the Maoists are inspired by revolutionary ideals and have successfully utilized each negotiation to their advantage. By keeping everybody confused, they have also succeeded in dividing other political forces. It is a pity that the Royal actions of the last one-year have complicated the problem, and contributed further to the Maoist cause.
If the present state at the political scene continues, there is risk of constitutional parties making a common cause with the Maoists. The youth and students shouting anti-monarch slogans could slowly converge with armed rebels fighting for a republican state. This will be disastrous for the country’s future.
