Indians supplying arms to Maoists nabbed
SARLAHI, JAN 10 - The Indian Special Service Bureau (SSB) yesterday arrested three Indian nationals supplying arms and explosives to Nepal’s Maoist insurgents from a border village, according to sources.
Deputy-Superintendent of Police Bal Krishna Thapa at the Sarlahi District Police Office said that the Indian paramilitary force arrested them after the Nepal Police provided them reliable information about their connection with the Nepali Maoists.
The arrested persons have been identified as Prakash Ray of Bathbara, Gopi Ray of Lalmanni and Mohammad Rahman of Katharipur in Bihar, India. They had earlier been recorded in a list of those who supply arms to the Maoists.
They had appeared in Malangawa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, three days ago but crossed the Nepal-India border when the Nepal Police tried to arrest them. "But the SSB arrested them from a hideout in Lalmanni," Thapa said, adding legal action would be taken against the accused in accordance with Indian law. He, however, said that they were ordinary members of a racket.Posted on: 2004-01-11 04:34
