Wastewater treatment plant likely to go waste

PR

HETAUDA, JAN 09 - Established with an aim to purify wastewater of the Hetauda Industrial Area, the Wastewater Treatment Plant has not been used with its full capacity due to the shortage of wastewater.
The plant, with a capacity of purifying 1.1million litres of water each day, has been limited to purify only 500,000 litres.
The shortage of the wastewater has emerged following the closure of most of the industries, which used to exhaust polluted water, said Uttam Kunwar, senior programme co-ordinator of the plant.
As the plant has not been utilised to its full capacity, it has also been unable to even generate operating cost, he added.
"If the industries are re-operated, the plant will be able to operate with full capacity and generate its operating cost. Moreover, the pollution to be caused by the wastewater of the industries will be reduced to a greater extent," he added.
The plant, stretching in a land of nine bighas of land, was established at a cost of Rs 540 million with the assistance of the Danish government.Posted on: 2004-01-10 02:32
