RPP discusses king’s 7-point agenda
KATHMANDU, JAN 08 - The central committee meeting of Rastriya Prajatantra Party today took positively the 7-point agenda proposed by the king during his meeting with political party leaders and decided to initiate discussions with other parties too.
Sacked general secretary of the party, Kamal Thapa, boycotted the meeting along with other members supporting the government.
They decided to form an internal committee headed by the party’s assistant general secretary Khem Raj Pandit to study the king’s agenda in detail and recommend ways to the party chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana for generating a national consensus among the parties.
As part of the efforts to reach consensus, chairman Rana
met with Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala today.
However, the agenda of the meeting is still unknown. But sources close to Rana said that Koirala expressed doubts over the king’s motives.
"Koirala has not taken the king’s agenda in positive light," the source said. "It was reflected in the meeting."
"Our party has taken the agenda very positively and seriously," RPP spokesperson
Roshan Karki told reporters after the meeting. "The party
has decided to discuss the
agenda with other parties as well."
The agenda included national consensus, corruption control, law and order, and elections, among other issues. Altogether 16 members took part in today’s discussion.
Rana disclosed at the meeting that the king wanted a programme-centric government in the future rather than giving importance to a person to head the government.
The party also condemned Kamal Thapa’s act of entering the Party office by force as undisciplined and passed a motion against the break-in.Posted on: 2004-01-09 04:13
