KATHMANDU, JAN 08 - ‘Afghanistan Unveiled’ - a document ~ ~ ry featuring the lives of women in Afghanistan - was shown to a gathering of women activists in the capital today.
The document ~ ~ ry, made by a group of young Afghan women journalists, also the first batch of women to be trained in electronic media, presents a sentimental account of women’s life under the Taliban regime and subsequently after its collapse.
From Kabul to Herat, and from Badakshan to Jalalabad, the film, which captures the journeys of the young media professionals to different parts of a mutilated country, is also a wake up call to revive the rights of women, which are taken for granted by the rest of the world.
"It is a heart-rending testimony of the reality of women," said Durga Pokharel, Chairperson of National Women Commission, after watching the document ~ ~ ry at the American Centre. "It reminds us of how lucky we are to have enjoyed freedom as we have."Posted on: 2004-01-09 03:51
