Narcotics control programme begins

KATHMANDU, JAN 07 - Narcotics drug abuse is a problem amongst youth between the ages of twelve and twenty-two years, said joint-secretary of the Home Ministry, Kumar Prasad Poudel.
He said since this group is mostly students in schools and colleges, it was essential to reach the youngsters through teachers. Poudel was speaking at a five-day training workshop that kicked off today with the support of the Narcotics Drug Advisory Programme, Colombo Plan.
According to a press release from the Narcotics Drugs Control Plan, Ministry of Home, the workshop, "Narcotics drug education for teachers" saw the participation of twenty-five teachers from different boarding schools of the capital.
Deepak Gurung, President of Kathmandu District Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal (PABSON), said that it was necessary for all concerned to work for the future of students and prevent them from falling into the trap of drug abuse.Posted on: 2004-01-08 03:29
