BIRATNAGAR, JAN 04 - Hari Khadka rediscovered his imperious form welcoming the New Year with four goals in Mahendra Police Club’s (MPC) tennis-like 6-2 win over Durgapur Steel Plant, West Bengal in the Mahendra Gold Cup here today.
It was Hari’s first hat-trick after Khukuri Cup May last year. Football’s premier
player Hari fired the goals in the 36th, 58th, 75th and 85th minute in a match that signalled a massive turnaround from 2003, when he struggled in both international and domestic game.
Durgapur put pressure on Nepal’s powerhouse after Dev Kumar Roy netted an early goal in the 28th minute. Spirited policemen brought the match at level terms when Hari scored his opener in the 36th minute. The pre-tournament favourite added one more goal in the 38th minute through Devnarayan Chaudhary’s trademark header to gain firm control over the match.
Polices’ raid became intensive in the second half as they added four more goals during the time. Hari dribbled past at least four Durgapur defenders from the centre to notch his second goal of the match in a counter-attack MPC created in the 58th minute. The combination of veteran Dev Narayan and Hari worked out for MPC as Hari completed his hattrick in the 75th minute when Chaudhary supplied him a superb pass at the centre.
Police defence was also exposed in the match when they conceded Durgapur the second goal in the 80th minute through Maijad Hussain. Devenarayan and Hari registered a goal apiece five minutes from time to start the year promisingly. Arch-rival Mananag Marshyangdi Club (MPC) are not playing in the tournament.
