WFP,GTZ urge Maoists to return looted rice

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, JAN 03 - United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) have suspended Food for Activity programme in Bajura district but urged the perpetrators of terrorist acts to return the looted rice in the district in the last week of December.
The decision has come in the aftermath of looting of some 6.5 metric tonnes of rice at Phuldev Madan Village Development Committee in Bajura on December 28. The rice belonged to the community working groups of the Rural Community Infrastructure Works in Bajura.
Issuing a joint statement here today, the WFP and GTZ have condemned the looting of the rice, urging the perpetrators to return the looted food to the community for which it was dispatched.
"It is immoral and unacceptable that the poorest and most vulnerable denizens of Bajura are deprived of this food for which they not only have worked hard but also built roads for the benefit of all the local communities," said Erika Joergensen, Representative of the WFP, in the statement.Posted on: 2004-01-04 04:50
