Bhutanese students flay regime’s apathy
BIRATNAGAR, JAN 03 - Bhutanese students have expressed sorrow over the obstruction of the verification process of the refugees by Bhutan government.
‘’The act of Bhutan government is regrettable and it shows that the Bhutan government is not interested to resolve over 100,000 refugee problem peacefully,’’ said a statement issued by the students of the refugees who are living in the UNHCR sponsored camps in eastern Nepal for over a decade.
The Bhutanese government should realise its mistakes for the welfare of the country and people and start the verification process as soon as possible and not to create additional difficulties to the Bhutanese refugees, it said.
The students have also appealed to the government of Nepal to take initiative for the peaceful resolution of the problem by involving the third country and Bhutanese refugees.
Over 100,000 Bhutanese of Nepalese origin have been living in various camps in Jhapa and Morang districts after they were forcefully evicted from Bhutan. The Bhutanese officials returned without informing the Nepalese side from the refugee camps recently.Posted on: 2004-01-04 05:11
