Women construct water project

POST REPORT

MYAGDI, JAN 03 - Women of Babiyachaur have completed a drinking water project to put an end to hardship of walking a long distance to fetch a pitcher of water.
Eighty households in Babiyachaur village have benefited from the project as they can now get drinking water at their doorstep. They no longer have to walk six miles to get a bucket of water for drinking purpose.
This project has been completed with the joint effort of Jaan Sudhar Woman Community Organisation (JSWCO) and Adarsha Woman Community Organisation (AWCO) at the total cost of Rs 201,894. The locals of this village have now easy access to drinking water after water has been tapped along 653 metre-long pipeline. The women involved in the project have also decided to install taps for the 80 households there.
According to chairperson of JSWCO, Yasoda Rokka, members of the community had contributed Rs 105,099 while the Local Development Fund had provided Rs 90,000 to complete this project. Similarly, VDC and DDC had provided Rs 10,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively. After the easy availability of water, the women have now been able to utilise much of their time for other productive works, says Lalkumari KC, member of AWCO.
If people unite and work with good intention, nothing is impossible, said the women involved in this project.Posted on: 2004-01-04 04:57
