Maoist-called bandh affects normal life
DHADING, JAN 02 - All the educational institutions and bazaars remained closed and vehicular movements stalled in Nuwakot and Dhading districts on the first day of two-day general strikes (bandh) called by Maoists.
Because of the strikes, no vehicle rolled on the Prithvi Highway, Tribhuvan Highway and Kathmabndu-Trishuli Highway, three out of four access roads to Kathmandu Valley, throughout the day.
The strikes was called by the Rasuwa-Dhading and Nuwakot units of the Maoists to protest killing of Jivan Prasad Thapaliya, deputy chief of ‘people’s government’ in Dhading district and Anil Thapa, area committee member of the party.Reports from Nuwakot stated that the security forces arrested two suspected Maoist rebels from Shera of Bidur Municipality. Though identities of the arrested rebels have not been disclosed yet, the security sources claimed that both of them were deployed by the Maoists to make the bandh success in the district headquarters.
Bandh also affected normal life in Rasuwa district headquarters, Dhunche.Posted on: 2004-01-03 04:40
