Student among 5 injured in roadside bomb blast
SINDHUPALCHOWK, JAN 02 - Five people, including a schoolboy, were injured today when a Maoist-laid electric landmine went off on a country road leading to Melamchi at Lagarche Village Development Committee-9.
The landmine was reportedly planted on the road to ambush the security forces stationed at the 5-MW Indrawoti Hydropower Project.
Those who sustained injuries in the explosion have been identified as teacher Birkha Bahadur Rai of Khotang’s Temba VDC, Pradeep Shrestha, a tenth grade student at Indreshowri Higher Secondary School, Ramji Giri, Ram Giri and Shri Maya Gurung, all from the Bhotenamlang VDC.Among the injured ones, condition of the teacher and the student is reported to be critical and an army helicopter airlifted them to Kathmandu for treatment. The security personnel defused four other unexploded electric landmines planted at a distance of 10-metre.
A report from Panchthar said that one Maoist rebel attempting to ambush a team of security forces was gunned down at Gopetar. The slain rebel has been identified as Bibek Jabegu.
Meanwhile, in Okhaldhunga, seven active Maoists from Shrichaur VDC have surrendered to the security forces denouncing Maoist violence. Earlier, they had worked as vice-chairman and members of village people’s government.Meanwhile, a report from Bara stated that Maoist rebels set fire on a vehicle of the Nepal Electricity Authority at Dudhaura Chowk.
