Students take out torch rallies as protests continue

(ANNFSU) emerged from Ratna Park.The separate rallies later converged into a corner meeting at Ratna Park shouting slogans against the king. They even went on to term the king as ‘a tyrant’.There were minor scuffles between police and students led by ANNFSU at Ratna Park, Bagbazar and Putalisadak but no untoward incident was reported.
According to Rajendra Rai, ANNFSU president, today’s rally was largely peaceful as police refrained from charging students."Police could not snatch away torches held by the protestors unlike yesterday," Rai said.
Similar rallies were organised by the alliance of seven student organisations in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur also.
Meanwhile, Gagan Kumar Thapa, general secretary of the NSU, said the rally would continue on Thursday also.
A joint meeting is called by the student alliance at Rastirya Sabha Griha (the city hall) at the Exhibition Road tomorrow to discuss about the strategy of protest programmes in future. "After the meeting, students will take out joint rally right from the meeting venue," Thapa informed.
