Victim of witch hunt to be compensated
JANAKPUR, JAN 01 - National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is to provide Rs. 30,000, as compensation to Ram Pari Devi, 45 of Patanuka VDC in Dhanusha district after her neighbours had meted out inhuman treatment to her after charging her to be a witch last year.
A decision to this effect was taken by a cabinet meeting, according to Kashi Raj Dahal, an official at the District Administration Office (DAO).
DAO also punished the culprits involved in Devi’s case, according to DAO. Meanwhile, Chuda Bahadur Shrestha, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), said that Janakpur zone alone witnessed 10 cases of witch hunting this year.
