Trolley bus to operate in public-private partnership
KATHMANDU, DEC 30 - Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Kathmandu Electric Vehicle Alliance (KEVA), a programme of USAID have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to make the Kathmandu-Suryabinayak trolley bus service a profit-making public private partnership venture, a press release issued by KEVA said here today.
As per the MoU signed by Kehshav Sthapit, Mayor of KMC and Bibek Chapagain, country co-ordinator of KEVA on December 19, KEVA will develop a business plan for the revival of the nation’s only zero-emission trolley bus service.
KEVA, an alliance partner of four organizations working for the promotion of non-polluting electric vehicles-PADCO, Winrock International (WI), Electric Drive Transportation System (EDTA) and San Francisco Clean Cities Coalition, will prepare the business plan based on CEMAT study that was commissioned by WI immediately after the closure of the state-run bus service in December 2001.
The bus service has been revived recently at the initiation of three municipalities of the Kathmandu Valley-Kathmandu, Bhaktapuir and Madhyapur Thimi— after about two years’ of closure and has been delivering service from Koteshwore to Tripureshwore.Posted on: 2003-12-31 04:43
