Three die of suffocation

KATHMANDU, DEC 28 - Three factory workers died of suffocation in their room on Friday night in Dhapasi-9. They had gone to sleep after lighting fire on a pan. The dead have been identified as Dipesh Tamang, 18, Buddhiman Puja, 19 and Suman Tamang, 18, all workers at Himalaya Noodles Pvt. Ltd. Meanwhile, Jeevan Lama, 19, who was sleeping in the same room, regained consciousness at 5:30 pm Saturday after receiving emergency treatment at Teaching Hospital.
Lama told police that the four of them went to sleep at nine pm on Friday, setting fire on several pieces of wood on a large cooking pan to beat the cold. They also locked all the window ~ ~ . After the three did not wake up till nine am the next day and did not answer when neighbours knocked at their door, police was called in. Doctors at Teaching Hospital have said that the three died of lack of oxygen, according to a police source at Maharajgunj Police Office.Posted on: 2003-12-29 05:43
