No seating arrangement at the District Court

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, DEC 28 - A tin-roofed shed adjacent to one of the buildings of the Kathmandu District Court stretches out for 15 meters. A crowd of people, mostly of lawyers and court visitors is visible, as they jostle each other to their particular destinations.
This is the general scene at the premises of the Kathmandu District Court, which sees nearly two hundred visitors daily.
"No chairs or any other seating arrangement. I had to stand for two hours while waiting for my case hearing to begin," Rita Shrestha, a middle-aged woman from Baneshwore, shared her inconvenience of standing for nearly two hours waiting for her case.
Like Rita, the court-visitors have to stand in the courtyard while waiting for their official work to be done. There is no seating arrangement in the court.
"The court administration should turn its attention to this problem," Harihar Subedi, a visitor to the court said.
This problem has even affected lawyers visiting the court. "We have to stand while waiting for our turn to plead. It would be nice if this problem was attended to," said Yogendra Adhikari, chairman of the Kathmandu District Bar Association.
"We are aware of the problem and are considering it seriously," Krishna Kamal Adhikari, Shrestedar at the court told The Kathmandu Post, saying that a budgetary constraint was behind this problem.
