Poet Ghimire felicitated in Pokhara
POKHARA, DEC 28 - Thousands of enthusiastic denizens of the scenic city Pokhara today honoured poet laureate, Madhav Prasad Ghimire, at a grand function here. The ageing poet was placed on a chariot and taken around the Pokhara valley, drawn by ardent lovers of Nepali literature.
The programme was organised under the joint aegis of various organisations devoted to promoting Nepali literature.
Ghimire was honoured with the presentation of a plaque and he was also presented with a shawl around his shoulders, for which poet Tirtha Shrestha did the honours.
A huge rally following the chariot carrying the poet started from Chipledhunga and proceeded along the several city thoroughfares such as Mahendrapool, Tersapatti, Ganesh Area, Bindhyavasani and culminated at the Prithvi Narayan Campus.
A colourful procession performing different musical programmes and depicting various customs was one of the more colourful aspects of the procession. Accompanied by his better half, the elated poet expressed his gratitude to the city residents for having honouring him.
"I am really glad to get such a spontaneous love from the people here, it is something which I have never in my life before," said a beaming poet.Posted on: 2003-12-29 05:38
