MMC set date with MPC

POST REPORT

DHARAN, DEC 26 - Country’s football powerhouses Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) and Mahendra Police Club (MPC) once again set up title clash as MMC beat Shyamnagar Tarun Association, Kolkata 1-0 in second semifinal of the Budhasubba Gold Cup being played at Dharan Stadium.
Rajan Rayamajhi scored the solitary goal to keep MMC’s bid to win fourth title of the year alive. They have already won Khukuri Cup, National League and Martyr’s Memorial Invitational Football this season.
MMC’s Nepali international striker Rajan Rayamajhi found the net in the first-half injury time setting Saturday’s final against arch-rival MPC. Rayamajhi’s fellow striker Basanta Thapa set an ideal ball inside the box to unmarked Rayamajhi who rammed home the only goal of the match against a tough Kolkata side boasting three Nigerian players.
Striking the decisive goal of the match, Rajan compensated for his sixth minute mistake when he directed an Umesh Upreti pass straight to Kolkata goalkeeper Amit Shah from inside the penalty area. Tashi Tshering also missed a couple of opportunities in the first half to see his team go into the break with a slender advantage of 1-0 lead.
MMC’s in-form goalkeeper Binod Dangol demonstrated his better form saving a handful of Kolkata attacks including a freekick by Alaudin Rehman in the 12th minute and Okili Osama Martin in the 22nd minute. The visitors failed to show killer instincts in the second half while striker Basanta Thapa and captain Kumar Thapa were denied by goalkeeper Amit Shah in the second half.Posted on: 2003-12-27 04:21
