KATHMANDU, DEC 26 - Swornim, Dharan’s Prashant Thapa took a three-pointer today, second in distance only to the last second giant three-pointer that Ratna Rai took for Gyan Club on Tuesday from just inside Trichandra’s backcourt. Prashant’s shot from around 20 feet from the

A visibly tired Pokhara Basketball Team followed their brave fight against Himalayan White House on Wednesday, with a poor performance today loosing to Dharan Basketball Team 61-36. Ram Sunwar and Sandip Shrestha shouldered Dharan scoring 49 between them while Yubraj Rai provided some excitement with back-to-back three-pointers in the first quarter. Dharan and White House have advanced to the quarters with two wins each but White House have one more match to play.

After being down 27-22 by half time, the Raiders’ made an impressive recovery to beat the Trichandra boys in a thrilling 65-63 match. Although the Raiders had managed to lead for a brief period in the second quarter, their real resurrection came in the middle of the third quarter when they came up 34-33 in front and managed to keep at least a one point lead from then on till the end. Gyan Club lead Pool ‘C’ winning all their games. After Trichandra’s loss today the battle for quarterfinal berth go down to Friday’s match between the Raiders and the Unique Group. If Raiders win, they are through, but if they lose, Trichandra, Unique and Raiders stand
as equals with a win each and point difference will come
into play to decide the runner-up.
Pool ‘D’s standing is also still open. Currently Gyanodaya College lead with two wins followed by Public Youth Campus (PYC) and Shanti Youth Club (SYC) while RIBS are at the tail with two losses. PYC will battle Gyanodaya and RIBS will fight SYC on Friday, the last day of the league stage. In the day’s first match, PYC will have to beat Gyanodaya by at least 10 points to draw with them. If PYC win by exactly 10 points, SYC will have to beat RIBS by four points to draw with Gyanodaya and PYC. This of course is the battle for the first place. But to go through to the quarters as second, PYC have to beat Gyanodaya by eight points, assuming that SYC beat RIBS by just one point. But RIBS too are not out of contention. If Gyanodaya win the first match, RIBS will have to beat SYC by eight points. But then again PYC will have to lose by at least two points.Posted on: 2003-12-27 04:21
