Polls fitting answer to regression: Oli

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, DEC 26 - K P Sharma Oli, leader of the CPN-UML has claimed that the regression would itself be defeated provided the Maoists let the parliamentary elections take place.
He asserted that even the king would not be able to hold the poll process.
Speaking at a programme organised by the United Left Front (Samyukta Bam Morcha) in the capital today, Oli said, "The logic to include the Maoists in the movement against regression is wrong. Maoists are not concerned with the regression."
He argued that the Maoists would help conduct the parliamentary polls if they were against regression.
Presenting a paper on the occasion, Bishnu Bahadur Manandhar, chairman of the United Left Front, said that the anti-regression forces and the Maoists should go hand in hand to defeat the ‘regression’.
However, Oli claimed that the Maoists should first give up weapons to initiate coordination with the parliamentary parties.
He also stressed to include other political parties in the five-party alliance.
Speaking on the occasion, Arjun Narsingh K C, spokesperson of the Nepali Congress, said that the five political parties could have coordination with other parties in the movement against regression.
"All other parties also could launch their movement in their own ways. Their inclusion in the five-party alliance is not possible for now," K C said.
Hridayesh Tripathi, general secretary of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi), demanded reconstitution of the country.
"Many of the people living in the country never feel a sense of belonging to the country," Tripathi said.Posted on: 2003-12-27 04:43
