Two aged women hacked to death in heinous crime
SARLAHI, DEC 25 - In arguably the most ruthless incident of modern-day savagery, a 42-year-old man of Karmaiya village attacked two senior women in his neighbourhood with a sharp Khukuri accusing them of being witches. They died instantly.
As startled locals watched in awe, a furious Dik Bahadur Bhujel, alias Uttam, of Karmaiya VDC, went to the houses of Ratna Maya Subedi, 60, and Goma Maya Sindali, 70, and attacked them with Khukuri, bludgeoning them to death.
After committing the crime, Bhujel surrendered to the police, who also arrested one shaman and several other suspicious accomplices in connection with the incident, according to police.
According to the eyewitness, Bhujel was feeling unwell for the past three weeks. Earlier, Buddhi Prasad Subedi, a faith healer and husband of Ratna Maya, had treated Bhujel. Bhujel was told that some evil spirit had possessed him.
Bhujel decided to invite two shamans - Krishna Bahadur Bhujel of the same village and Karna Bahadur Bhujel of Dhugrekhola area - who were engaged in the treatment of Bhujel yesterday evening. They were last seen heading towards a nearby stream, towing a black he-goat, a cock and a pair of pigeon so as to "drive away" the evil spirit.
Early in the morning today, Bhujel suddenly shouted that Ratna Maya had cast spells on him. Heeding his order, his wife went to invite Ratna Maya, a next door neighbour, over in their house.
As soon as Subedi came to his house, Bhujel turned furious and started trembling and shouting that he would kill her. Then Bhujel took out his Khukuri and tried to attack her.
He was overpowered by his family members who locked him inside a room, according to Santa Bahadur Bhujel.
"But he broke the door of the room with axe and attacked her with khukuri before we could stop him," said Santa Bahadur. He also tried to kill Ratna Maya’s family members too, but the neighbours stopped him from doing that.
Bhujel then headed towards the house of Goma Maya, who was alone in her house, and attacked her with the khukuri, according to eyewitnesses.Posted on: 2003-12-26 04:44
