TIKAPUR, DEC 25 - A report from a village in Kailali district adjoining the Indian border says that an Indian national posing as a doctor has been conducting Hydrocele operations on local patients of this village.
By deceiving the people that he was a doctor he had been advising the locals to undergo operation at his hands. He had been going around border villages like, Bhajani, Lalbojhi, Khailad and others finding people suffering from this disease and luring them to undergo operation. Talking to The Kathmandu Post, Gajendra Kumar Chaudhary, a local of Khailad VDC-6, said that this so-called doctor has been conducting operations at patients’ homes.
According to another local, Ramdularay Chaudhary of Bhajani VDC-4, such operations were being undertaken with a razor blade and each patient is charged Rs. 4000. Local intellectuals there observe that this doctor of Indian national is conducting the operation without any medical knowledge.
According to Santosh Karna a local mostly the people of Tharu ethnicity living near this border have fallen prey to this quack.
It is learnt that various organisations have been conducting free camps for hydrocele patients. Hydrocele is a disease related with the accumulation of fluid, usually in the testes. However, due to lack of awareness and education locals of this border region are becoming victims at the hands of Indian quacks.
Similarly, it is also reported that people from across the border have been illegally conducting clinics and medical dispensaries around the border region of Kailali district.
It is learnt that locals have been taking help from these clinics and dispensaries due to lack of proper medical facility existing at the health posts in their villages.
Indian medicines have been illegally entering the border villages in this district on top of many other medical-related problems, but the government has failed to take action against such illegal medical practices.Posted on: 2003-12-26 04:32
